Do you have something to say to Sandy? Comments or opinions about a recent topic of discussion? Post it here!

A listener just shared this email-- and I don't know what to think of the description of Sandy.

I'm really pleased I can continue to hear WBEN on my computer while I work, often at home.  I live right near power lines and so cannot get decent AM reception over the air.  With my computer I listen to Bauerle, daily and Hourly.

The other day Sandy's topic concerned the question: "Can a 'Good' Catholic Vote for a Pro-Choice Candidate?"  This invited a memorable caller whose comment, and Sandy's response, I would like to comment on.

First, to answer the question directly "Can a good Catholic...", the answer is an unequivocal "No." Abortion is intrinsically evil.  It intentionally takes the life of the inocent.

Sandy had a caller who repeated something she said she heard Sandy say, and that was that it was Sandy's "belief" that life begins at birth.  She tried to discuss it with him but he firmly refused, noting that:
1. beliefs can't be discussed because they are personally held, and
2. all of the arguments are old and no opinions can be swayed because the arguments are old.

Sandy was as pleaseant as he could be given that he was shutting down this caller because the subject was forbidden on his show.

I think he was disingenuous however.  First of all you can profess a "belief" in almost anything.  That might be the utility of unions, teacher's pay, etc.  All of which Sandy is more than willing to have a show about and discuss at length.  So that's not it.

As for opinions not being changeable, not every listener has heard every argument approached from every direction.  There's new listeners every day, or your ad department at least hopes there is.  So that's not it.

Now, I really enjoy Sandy's program.  I catch it every day at drive time.  I agree with him far, far more often than I disagree.  He always displays thought and reason behing his positions...except this one.

So I'm forced to write this.  If I called he'd hit the "dump" button.

For life to begin at birth means that there is something magical about the passage through the birth canal...(or the abdominal wall in the case of C-section).  It means the growing that takes place in the womb is without meaning.  It means the the heartbeating and thumbsucking in the womb are not a baby's actions.

I don't think Sandy's position can be maintained without intelluctual dishonesty.  That stands in stark contrast to every other subject he discusses.

But I still like Sandy and will still continue to listen.

I can't believe some of the crap I hear on WBEN from Bauerle to Rush to Beach. It is so completely outlandish that I personally consider it to be unacceptable and embarassing to any moderate standard. Bauerle referred to Obama as a Marxist, Kenyan Scumbag. Today Beach is professing that the civilian army that Obama wants to assemble to help protect America from terrorism will be used as a facist army to put down free speech and steal guns away from second amendment believers. Everyday it is something else more rediculous than the previous day with almost zero dissent from the listeners. When someone does call in to beg to differ they are mocked and usually hung up on.

I would say that this type of media stupidity and the Palin pick were the most significant factors in my turning away from McCain who I do consider to be an American hero.

I would say that if this kind of right wing banter continues I will not be the only person out there demanding a sponsor led boycott. Lets see how long my free speech will endure.

Sponsors like ratings. It means more people hear their message. Popular opinions and controversial ones bring listeners. Do you really think a boycott could work?

Sandy I think it is time for you to retire. You have lost your ability to keep us listening. You used to be real good but no longer. Time maybe for Dobson to get the 3-6 show. Oh friday with cinema bob what a bore.

I could not wait for the Beach ,Governor interview, too bad it started early, I missed the beginning. But just wondering what the governor meant at the end of the interview? Next time the interview 'will be on me" . Was the Governor paid to be on Beach? And next time wben will not have to pay? HUH As Sandy would say it does not smell right. But I really like Patterson, he has a tough job just like our new President. Gov. Patterson speaks from his heart, at least I think so. I wish him the best.
