President Obama said throughout his campiagn that he would put an end to earmarks. But, based on the latest omnibus spending bill, I guess that is not true. He said today that after this bill there would be no more earmarks. Why wait until the next spending bill? Why not veto this bill and take out the earmarks? I thought Obama told us that he would "go line by line through the budget and take out unecessary items"? However, when push comes to shove Obama will not remove earmarks and sign a spending bill with 1,000 earmarks in it.
What do you think? |

Reply with quote | #3 | He was serious about the "line-by-line" comment.
Just as serious as he was about having no lobbyists in his administration.
Just as serious as he was about nominating tax cheats to his administration.
Just as serious as he was about "Change" as he selected Clinton cabinet retreads and had them all shift one seat to the left.
He lets Nancy Pelosi write his bills and as a tribute to the left, he signs them.
I see no bright spots on the horizon. I keep thinking that in two years we will fix this...but we won't...with the kind of Republicans that make it onto ballots and get some press time.
The Democratic leadership are communists and the Republican leadership are cowardly sympathizers.

Reply with quote | #4 | I have to agree with Gunjunkie. The "hope" and "change" spoken of during the election quickly became exposed as more of the same--only worse. Hope and change had been quickly replaced by doom and gloom; and now, it looks like we may have real reason to fear. This obamination has not brought anything that we can believe in.... Rather, the "change" spoken of will be the only thing left in our pockets. There is also no "hope" in communism; we all have seen the examples of how that works out, there's actually over 100 million examples of it.
The people who voted for this usurper-in-thief should be happy with the change they got. He is little different than what we had, just more condensed. For all those who cried about the debt, where's your anger now that your children's, children's, children will be paying off our debt? ....if this nation exists at all. It took Bush eight years to run up the debt, this puppet has doubled it in weeks! He's just getting started at destroying our nation. If the devaluation of the dollar and accumulated debt doesn't wipe us out, the proposed cap & trade policy will only make it worse. Who knows what else is going to be enacted, since he's only getting started. The Lord knows, much of the media isn't informing the public on anything of importance, and those in Washington haven't exactly shown much more competence at their job either.

Reply with quote | #5 | When will you people finally get it through your thick skulls that voting for Democrats and Republicans is voting for the status quo? If you really want change, challenge the media to stop lying to the American people when they say there are only two parties or that you can only vote for one of two candidates. Challenge those who run the debates to allow the other political parties equal participation. Register and vote for one of the other national parties out there.
Until we the people challenge the Democrat-Republican duopoly (that the media is guilty of perpetuating as it commits election fraud every election cycle), there will never be real change. __________________ "No nation [has] a right to inter-meddle in the internal concerns of another; and that, if this country could, consistent with its engagements, maintain a strict neutrality and thereby preserve peace." - George Washington - |

Here is a list of the Senate's 10 biggest earmark hogs, based on dollar amounts in the spending bill: 1. Thad Cochran, R-Miss.: $474 million 2. Roger Wicker, R-Miss.: $391 million 3. Mary Landrieu, D-La.: $332 million 4. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa: $292 million 5. David Vitter, R-La.: $249 million 6. Christopher Bond, R-Mo.: $248 million 7. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.: $235 million 8. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii: $225 million 9. Richard Shelby, R-Ala.: $219 million 10. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa: $199 million
Notice that 6 out of the top 10 earmarkers are Republicans. |

Reply with quote | #7 | Chan, You have a point. Once people get over the belief that you can only get something accomplished by voting for someone from one of the two major parties, and vote their conscience will change come. For too long there has been an idea of a vote for a third party candidate is a wasted vote. I would argue that electing more third party candidates would start to bring the others into a more defined and opposing perspective. Instead of the parties of liberalism, and liberalism lite, we would likely develop more true differentiation between the majors. Media to a degree is responsible for this as well. Not all media sources even give mention of third party candidates. It is up to the electorate to educate itself on the candidates and vote their conscience, not on the lesser of two evils.
