This is unconstitutional, the government demanding the resignation of a CEO of a private business. I'm not suprised since everything that this administration does is unconstitutional. Why are we in the private sector letting the government roll over us. Why did Rick Wagoner of GM agree to resign at President Obama's request. It is becuase private companies are now whores to the government. They want the money, so they'll do anything to get it. This is a shame. Our Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves.

Yes, the whirling noise you are hearing is the founders rolling in their grave.

While I am generally against government involvement in private industry, I agree with government loans at this time; however, this should not allow government to dictate anything to them other than the unions making some cost saving compromises.  Just as Iaccoca borrowed from the government to save Chrysler, the same criteria should have been required, and nothing more.
It is governments meddling in affairs that brought on this economic condition we are suffering, and more government meddling will resolve nothing.

I wonder how much longer it will be before the obamanation will invade into the rights of another industry, or start dictating what products will be allowed to be produced.  Can't you see it now.....  obamanation Motors Corporation: The U.S. equivalent of the Yugo.  obamanation Petroleum to fuel it; or since it's likely to be a hybrid or electric, you can recharge it with power from obamantion Electric.  Of course, these power sources will all have a healthy dose of scam-and-trade taxes incorporated into their cost.

The sad reality is that the American we grew up in has been slowly going the way of the dinosaur; but now it's falling off the charts at a rate more alarming than the drop in AIG stock.  I fear we've come too close to the point of no return unless we take drastic measures to restore the union our founders intended.

The sad fact about the auto industry is that it was the government and unions that caused the problems in the first place. The federal government along with state governments have placed ridiculous fule economy standards on these companies. The unions have sucked the money out of the big three. And now the government steps in like their the hero and place even more "green" requirements on them and also want to give the unions more power. Obama knows nothing about running a business, yet he claims that GM's plan is not viable. Obama fires GM's CEO based on absolutely no experience. Obama's team has no experience either. This seems like a recipe for disaster.

I could not agree with you more. Government and the excessive regulations they placed upon industry is largely to blame.  It matters not the governmental source: Federal, state, local..... All these regulations cost the manufactures, and ultimately the consumer.  Is it any wonder that companies based outside of the U.S. can establish factories here, much of their operations are still based in business friendly countries.

Between fuel economy, crash, and environmental standards they have created a circular pattern of challenges.  Crash standards force the vehicles to become heavier, so now they are faced with challenges to fuel economy and environmental standards; and the same then is true if in the interest of economy, you make the vehicle lighter; how does it affect the crash worthiness and cost to consumer?

People aren't aware of the expense involved of all these regulations, and what it ultimately cost them.  Furthermore, the market is largely not the deciding how vehicles are produced anymore, it's regulations.

As for the unions.....  Nobody owes anyone a lifetime of benefits and income for work they no longer are performing.  One should look at the circumstances that existed when many of these benefits came into being.  Few if any of these circumstances remain today, though these benefits have become standard fare; and in some industries grown to crippling proportions, to which the auto industry is the poster child.

The fact that now the gooberment is going to be influencing the production means that we are likely to have even less input in what vehicles we buy.  Forget the fact that many of these officials never ran a business, to which the auto industry is said to be the most difficult, but many of these clowns have never even held a "real" job.  Elected officials have already illustrated their inability to perform almost anything, in a fiscal not to mention logical manner, responsibly what makes anyone think they can run something they know nothing about?

Consider our tax-cheat Treasury Secretary, he can't seem to manage his own taxes, yet we have allowed someone this incompetent to manage the finances of our country, and now make decisions for the auto industry too?

My friends, we're screwed if we think that gooberment can actually take on these added responsibilities and perform them competently.  History has clearly shown otherwise, but I guess we haven't learned from the past.....  It was the gooberment that created the financial crisis, and brought these companies to this point in time, what makes anyone think that they can now resolve it when their policies seem to be irresponsible spending as a means to end all problems?
