Four Foundational Beliefs 1.) Personal Responsibility Its time for everyone to take responsibility for their own life and the decisions that they have made. If your life isn’t going as you have planned, then it is your responsibility to improve it not the governments. What do you gain if the government punishes another group? How does your life improve? The only person who can make your life better is yourself. A society that points fingers and expects to be taken care of is a society in trouble. We have benefitted from our parents and grandparents hard work, but we must make our own prosperity. Nobody took care of them, they took care of themselves, and created the greatest country in human history. Unless more Americans become more self-reliant and accept responsibility for themselves, we will not be as prosperous as in the past. 2.) Individual Liberty The government is slowly taking our personal liberties. Its been a slow process. Americans have a right to make their own decisions without the government looking over their shoulder. We have the right to not wear a seat belt if we don’t want to. The right smoke without paying punitive taxes. The right to allow smoking in a private establishment. The right to raise our children as we see fit. The right to drive cars that we want to, not cars that the government wants us to drive. The right to own and carry guns. The right to send our kids to a private school without having to pay for the public school district. The right to use the kind of light bulb that we want to. And the right to keep what we earn without paying confiscatory taxes that punish achievement. 3.) Religion Like it or not President Obama we are a Christian nation. How dare you attack our core founding principles. “In God we trust” and “We have been endowed by our creator with certain and inalienable rights” are key phrases in our Republic. Religion is slowly being taken out of our lives by the Left. The first thing to go was prayer in public schools. Now, people want “under God” taken out of the pledge of allegiance and “In God we trust” removed from the dollar. People always point to the separation of church and state for why religion must be removed from government. However, the purpose of separation of church and state was not to remove religion from government but to remove government from religion. 4.) Hard Work The founding American generations had to work hard in order to survive. We today can enjoy the benefits of their hard work. However, we can’t get lazy we must continue the long history of a strong American work ethic. People now want things paid for them, they want get paid for not working. People choose to not work because then they won’t get their welfare check. We need to take pride in the work that we do and how we provide for our families. This is what has made America so great. What do you think? Are these principles under attack? |

Reply with quote | #2 | In general I agree with most of what you have said. I do take a little issue with a couple of things:
Personal Responsibility- Yes, you are responsible to do the best for yourself that you can. Others did it. Immigrants did it without knowing the language. All true. But in previous years we had heavy industry and a guy with medium intelligence, a strong back, and good work ethic could, and did, make a good living with benefits for himself and his family. Today that heavy industry is vanishing and you need better mental tools, and a skill set that has not been exported yet to get a good benefited job. There are a lot of guys who'd be self-starters if they had a place to start that did not involve flipping burgers. Individual Liberty - Not much to take issue with there. Religion - The people only claim to be religious. Yes, 76% claim Christianity but most of those don't worship regularly. Many "shop" for religions that make them feel good. In the end, the people themselves do not want God informing their consciences. The gov't did not take this away so much as we threw it away. Hard Work - We desperately need manufacturing capability in our country, not only for our workforce but for our own strategic security. But yes, if you won't get whatever job you can then we ought not be sending checks in the mail to do-nothings. Oh, yeah, while we are on the subject lets get rid of those "stimulus jobs" that end in words like "facilitator", or "coordinator" or have the word "diversity" in them. gunjunkie __________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. |

Reply with quote | #3 | I cannot agree with you more. Any principle that relates to one being accountable to self, and the choices they wish to make, or the responsibilities they have is and has been under attack. At virtually every level, whether personal or as a business, almost all decisions have to be made upon whether or not there is a governmental regulation or law against it. Politicians have stepped in to instill what they believe to be their idea of morality and fairness; often at the expense of morality and fairness.
We have not remained a land of opportunity for all, but a land of equal outcome, despite the fact that some have not, and do not, wish to even apply the smallest effort to obtain the outcome desired. It is quite ironic that those we call the "less fortunate" are rewarded with the labors of those who work hard to provide a better life for their family.
Religion--it seems if you hold Christian values, and aren't afraid to admit holding them, you are fair game for criticism; and soon, possibly, chargeable for a hate crime. Yet, if you wish to bash those who admit to believing in God, you are almost entirely free to voice any opinion you have.
As with business and choice, we have seen how government has been encroaching upon freedom with the smoking ban; but now we have more threatening examples with the auto industry. How long before the government will use this "crisis" to push even more control over private entities?
I could go on and on; but it is more than apparent that this government is taking away more of our personal liberties at an increasing rate and burdening us and future generations with a yoke of bondage. Ironically, I often have seen where these liberals, oops, "progressives" cite that they stand for more open mindedness, freer speech and blah, blah, blah; yet none of the actions they take ever demonstrate that this. My friends....not comrades....we're going down as a nation, and only drastic measures will keep us a free nation. It has been a great ride, but liberty is going to be going the way of Pontiac and corporate jets.

FeatTheVoices: I agree with what you said about religion. It seems as though if you beleive in Christianity you can't express your beliefs. If you do you are labeled as intolerant or even a radical. But if someone from a minority religious belief expresses themsleves, they are praised as exhibiting their Constitutional rights. This is America, minority views must not be attacked. However, the majority viewpoint should also not be attacked. |
